Barcelona

Barcelona was a dream come true, everything I expected and more! I was so glad that we had an itinerary with lots of fun activities. The first day we got there we didn’t do much given that we had just flew 11 hours to get there, but nonetheless, we went out for gelatos and dinner. It was great getting to explore the city and having a local dinning experience. The next day was our walking tour around the Gothic Quarter. We did most of our planning/booking through www,withlocals.com. We wanted to truly get to experience the culture from the perspective of a local. Our tour guide was amazing, she showed us all of the great architecture, told us about the history and was a great photographer! We started at the La Sagrada Familia, such a beautiful building with an amazing history. There is still a lot of construction and will be for a while. The architect, Antoni Gauldi, designed the building with all the details. You can tell that Spain was once a very religious country, the influences are present in almost all the buildings. From there we went to La Rambla, which is equivalent to Rodeo Drive. The color thing about this street is that a lot of the corner blocks were once owned by very wealthy people who would compete on how great their building could be. Many of them hired Gaudi to design their buildings. I included a few of the pictures.

The next day Katherine and I went to the Palau de le Musica in search of these amazing colorful columns. We found out that the columns are not accessible unless you purchase a tour. Disclaimer the tour guide does not give enough time to capture the pictures, still worth seeing! One the same day we also went to Park Guell, also designed by Gaudi, not only was it under construction but we couldn’t get tickets for the times we wanted. It was still a great view and we were able to purchase art from a local artist, which is one of my favorite things to do !

On our very last day, we had a sailing trip scheduled. When we initially planned it out, we wanted to time it so that we were at sea during sunset. We barely made it and the sailing wasn’t all that smooth, but it was enjoyable! I had never been on the mediterranean and it was definitely an experience. My girls and I had a wonderful time in Barcelona!
